introduction to design
ITD Project 1 : Sketching Elements of Design in Nature and the Build Environment & THE 10 ART WORK
This project is divided into 2 important parts. The first part is about getting to know the basic design elements through observing nature and the built environment by sketching the apparent and concealed design elements in both environments. And addition to this, students are required to produce 2 abstract artwork. The second part will concentrate on familiarizing design principles through composing simple art work using simple daily items. Both parts are basically dealing with 2D artwork.

ITD Project # 2 : 3D exploration & The Lego Miniature – Hanging Mobile Display
The aim of Project Two is to explore the transformation from 2D elements to 3D form. In the first part students will be playing with the shapes, forms, and materials and transforming it into a 3D geometric abstract art piece to suite a certain given word or phrase. Students are required to explore the given words and translate it into “design elements” and “design principles” to transform it into a 3D geometric art work. The end product will be a 3D artwork that instantly reflects the given word.
In the second part of this project, individually student will create a 3D hanging mobile display for their Lego miniature toy implementing the design elements and principles. This hanging mobile display will be supported by presentation boards.

The Design Process Journal
The Design Process Journal is an assignment for students to become familiar with “design process”. This design process will contribute to the final project “Project 2B – The Lego Miniature Mobile Display”. Before starting any design works, a designer will need to understand their client and the client needs. In this situation the client is the Lego miniature and his needs to have a hanging mobile display. The “process” basically will require the students to understand the Lego miniature character thoroughly to come up with interesting ideas. Through the Design Process Journal, students will develop and explore ideas for The Lego Miniature Mobile Display.
